Classically Connected, Inc. Renames Musical Instrument Registry
to FindMyInstrument™
June 7, 2023
The public, not-for-profit, informational resource addresses the longstanding issue of questionable or missing records about instruments. FindMyInstrument™ benefits makers, insurers, investors, music educators, collectors, buyers, sellers, researchers and arts institutions.
“While the registry has a new name, its purpose and functionality remain the same: It continues to easily provide reliable information to the global instrument community,” said Karen Neus, CCI chairwoman.
Having completed its prototype testing phase, FindMyInstrument™ currently has more than 250 entries and is free to browse. The registry accepts all types of stringed instruments, bows and pianos; the fine stringed instruments featured include all of those held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and all of the Concorso Triennale award winners from the Museo del Violino.
Instrument owners — or those with power of attorney — upload data to the registry about their instruments such as the year that they were made, the name of the makers, dimension measurements, videos and photos, dendrochronology, and other technical scans. The information is stored on a cybersecure, blockchain-ready system that CCI independently manages. The registry then assigns each instrument a unique identifying number, similar to departments of motor vehicles.
CCI continuously incorporates visitor feedback into the maintenance of FindMyInstrument™, resulting in a more mobile-friendly interface, smoother user experience and cleaner look. Future enhancements include an ID card that will allow for easier instrument transport, additional instrument metadata fields that will particularly benefit shop owners and insurance companies, a mobile app and the expansion of the registry to accept other types of instruments.
